or at the door on October 27th
Lexington is in for a treat. On Saturday, October 27, our town will celebrate
Lexington’s 300-year clothing history in Breeches, Bloomers, and Bellbottoms, Oh My! A Musical Fashion Revue. The Revue will be held 7:30 p.m. at the Donald Gillespie auditorium at Lexington High School.
This one-of-a-kind show promises to delight all. Presented by the Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee, the Revue will feature around 150 people including: high school actors, Selectmen, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Town Department heads, Town employees, well-known Lexingtonians, re-enactors, Thelma Goldberg’s Legacy Dancers, and over 25 school teachers and staff members. All will join to make this a spectacular evening.
The show’s writer and director, Jessie Steigerwald, states that the Revue will be an enjoyable and whimsical walk through fashion. “This isn’t a catwalk fashion show. We wanted our town to experience fashion history – but in a fun way! The cast is singing and dancing throughout as the audience feasts their eyes on garments from the past.”
Clothing 150 people isn’t easy, and the 300th Fashion Revue Committee has been hard at work for months. They’ve gathered and sewed garments; they’ve gone to thrift stores and costume shops. Members of the community have generously lent or donated vintage clothing, some pieces dating back to the 1880s. Talented seamstresses and tailors have been busily stitching authentic clothes. The result is an amazing collection of garments from our past. From wedding dresses to uniforms to recreational wear, the show will amuse and captivate all who attend.
That’s not all that’s happening that evening! Come early at 6:45 p.m. and experience Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Fashion, a boutique consisting of wearable art made by local artists. All these original, handmade pieces will be auctioned to benefit the
300th Anniversary. Take home a unique Lexington-themed cigar box purse or piece of jewelry as you support the 300th!
Tickets for the Fashion Revue range from $10 - $30. Proceeds from ticket sales will help defray the cost of the entire nine-month 300th Anniversary celebration. Tickets are being sold at the Lexington Town Clerk’s Office, 1625 Massachusetts Avenue,
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Co-Chairs: Leslie Masson, Tanya Morrisett, Jessie Steigerwald and Corinne Steigerwald
Scene Captains: Cristina Burwell, Marie Hill, Polly Kienle, Shirley Lane, Fay Backert, Jen Geller, Kim Coburn, Donna Hooper, and Susan Rubenstein
