Leonard A. Saville, born in Gloucester in 1833, sailed with his father around Cape Horn during the California Gold Rush in 1849, a voyage that took 160 days.  In 1873 he returned permanently to Lexington,
his father's home town, and opened a grocery store with B. C. Whitcher. He later served as Town Clerk, Town Treasurer, Tax Collector, Assessor, and Postmaster.  Mr. Saville was for many years a trusted and beloved figure in Lexington.
