Lexington 300th Community Meetings on January 9th at 9:00 am and 7:30 pm at the Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Square
“We’ve got plenty of tasks to go around! Whether people prefer to help out for two hours on March 16th or to join our planning team, there’s a
place for everyone on the LexCelebrate! Incorporation Weekend team,” promises Betty Gau. Gau is organizing one of the upcoming events that make up the Town of Lexington’s 2013 menu for the ongoing 300th Anniversary celebration. Just as the LexCelebrate! team is eager to welcome new volunteers to plan and mount the two-day event, other 300th events, such as The Musket Ball (April 6th), the Old-Time Baseball Game and Clinic (May 26), and the Closing Ceremony (May 27) seek to strengthen their volunteer ranks.
For folks who’d like to get involved, or who are simply curious about the 300th’s plans for the spring, two Community Meetings will be held on
Wednesday, January 9th, one in the morning and one in the evening. Residents are invited to come to the Lexington Depot at 9:00 a.m. or 7:30 p.m. to learn more. Each event team will present its concept, the volunteer opportunities available, and take questions.
Sue Rockwell, 300th Committee chair reports, “The 300th events succeed because of the hard work of our volunteers who participate in their planning and execution. In fact, we had over 1,000 volunteers during our 9/22/12 Opening Day Events alone! We are reaching out again, to Lexington residents, who can help create memories and history.” Jessie Steigerwald, 300th Committee Events Co-Chair adds, “The people working on these events may seem as though they’ve know each other for years. But really, many of us had never even met before we signed onto the 300th team of volunteers. This is a great way to get to meet fun people and accomplish something creative and lasting together – this is a very
open and welcoming bunch!” Of course, there’s work to be done, she admits, continuing, “No matter your schedule, we'd appreciate your help. There's no job too big or too small.”
